Access Control for School and University Campuses
University Campus With Residence Halls
The Challenge
Card based attendance cannot tell whether the student tapping in is the student enrolled, so one classmate can check in for another. The campus also runs different rules for dorms, labs, libraries, and lecture halls, and reissuing cards every time a student changes room or program is slow. Enrolling thousands of new students at one central office creates a bottleneck at the start of every term.
The Approach
JF4 speed gates at campus and building entrances pass 50 persons per minute per lane at under 50 dB, fast enough for class changes. Face recognition terminals at classroom doors match each student at 99.98% accuracy in 200 to 300 ms, and access rules follow the student’s enrolled profile by building, floor, and room. Staff enroll new students at orientation and dorm check in with an ESR366 handheld terminal, which syncs to the central system over WiFi or 4G.
The Outcome
Attendance is tied to an enrolled face, so proxy check in stops at the classroom door. Dorms and labs open only for students whose profile matches that zone, with no cards to reissue. Enrollment happens where students already are, and the campus office sees one attendance and entry log for every building.

Where Card Based Campus Access Falls Short
Proxy Check In
" A card can be passed to a friend, so attendance records who held the card, not who sat in class. "
Many Rules on One Campus
" Dorms, labs, libraries, and lecture halls each need their own access level. "
Enrollment at Term Start
" Thousands of new students cannot all be enrolled at one central office. "
Crowds Between Classes
" A slow gate turns a ten minute class change into a corridor queue. "
School Access Control Built Around the Student Profile
Face Recognition Attendance
" Each match runs at 99.98% accuracy in 200 to 300 ms, with financial grade liveness detection against photos, phone videos, and masks. "
Dorm and Lab Access by Profile
" Access rules follow each student’s enrolled building, floor, and room, so changes need no new card. "
Mobile Enrollment
" The ESR366 handheld enrolls students by face, NFC card, or QR code at orientation and dorm check in. "
Speed Gates for Class Changes
" JF4 speed gates pass 50 persons per minute per lane and run below 50 dB near lecture halls and libraries. "

Frequently Asked Questions
The terminal reads a face, not a card, and matches it against that student’s own enrolled template at 99.98% accuracy. A friend standing in simply does not match the record. Liveness detection also rejects a printed photo or a video played on a phone, so a picture of the absent student does not work either.
Yes. Access rules are linked to how each student was enrolled, by building, floor, and room. The dorm terminal opens only for residents whose profile matches that zone, and when a student moves room, the profile is updated instead of a new card being issued.
Staff enroll students where they already are, at orientation, registration desks, and dorm check in, using ESR366 handheld terminals. Enrolled faces sync to the central system over WiFi or 4G afterward, so no one needs to visit a single central office.
Attendance keeps running. Each terminal stores up to 50,000 faces and matches them locally, so classes are still recorded during an outage. The records sync to the central database once the network returns.
Rules on student biometric data vary by country and state, and some require written parental consent for students under 18. The school sets the consent and retention policy. EASCO terminals store templates on the device and also accept cards and QR codes, so students who opt out can still pass.
Yes. Wide lane speed gates offer a 900 mm (35.4 in) clear passage for wheelchairs, carts, and instrument cases, installed beside standard 600 mm lanes at the same entrance.
